Mobile Museum

Our Mobile Museum consists of a series of mini interactive exhibits that pop-up wherever and whenever. These exhibits inspire hands-on exploration and play and bring the children’s museum experience out into the community. Just like our brick and mortar museum, the Mobile Museum engages children with complex concepts and skills in a playful interactive way. Our exhibits focus on the process of learning rather than solely on the topic at hand as a way to foster intuition, interest, and curiosity in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

Interested in bringing the Mobile Museum to you?

  1. Is the event open and free to the general public?
  2. Does the event offer CDM some level of publicity and community cultivation opportunity?
  3. Does the event require no more than 1 staff person? (Based on attendance estimate and desired exhibits/activities.)

If answered YES to all these questions, then give us a call to see if we have room in our calendar to bring the mobile museum to your event for low to no charge!

Fees for other events that do not meet the three-point criteria above are assessed on a case-by-case basis and range from $100-$250 / day for non-profit hosts and from $250-500 / day for for-profit hosts. The bike-powered blender is available solo for a minimum maintenance fee of $25 / day.

Are you a school?

The Mobile Museum is available to schools for a fee of $150 if the school is within 50 miles of the museum’s Augusta or Waterville facilities. This provides 1 staff person for up to 6 hours including 10-minute breaks between groups and 30 minutes set-up and 30 minutes breakdown. This basic package includes no staff presentation aside from a basic (but enthusiastic!) introduction and includes no take-home or guided activity, just lots of hands-on learning through play!

The mobile museum is appropriate for grades PreK – 5th. Groups must be no bigger than 25 students and will be divided into smaller groups of no more than 6 students. Each group must have at least 1 adult to oversee students’ safe use of materials and encourage their exploration of the activity at hand.

Guided take-home activities can be made available upon request for an additional fee based on materials and staffing required.

If the event does require additional staff, $15 / hour will be added to the total fee.

The Children’s Discovery Museum is seeking funding to support bringing the Mobile Museum program free of cost to local non-profits serving families in the community.
