Behind The Scenes: Meet Caitlin!

The Children's Discovery Museum is excited to welcome Caitlin, our new Community Programs and Relations Coordinator. She worked closely with Executive Director, Amarinda Keys, to plan and run Kids in the Woods summer program, and now she is gearing up for a fall full of engaging community programs.

Every Tuesday morning at 10:00, Caitlin will be leading Outdoor Adventures at Quarry Road, a weekly walk in the woods with a short activity at Quarry Road. She will also be running Einstein Time

Afterschool on Thursdays, our first weekly afterschool program in Waterville. Parents are able to drop their children off for this hour-long program, which will explore science in a way that is hands-on, engaging, and of course, a little messy!

She has some other events up her sleeve as well, including Maine-fest with the Maine State Museum on Saturday, October 16th, and Frightful Fun Packs filled with spooky activities, just in time for Halloween. Keep an eye out on our Facebook Page for more information!

This week, we sat down with Caitlin to learn a little bit more about her:

Children’s Discovery Museum: How would you describe your job to a 5-year-old?

I get to plan all the fun activities we do at the museum! Plus I get to play with everyone who is in one of our programs and make new friends.

CDM: What did you want to be when you grew up?

A chef. I love cooking and eating food! I guess chemistry is a lot like cooking and baking!

CDM: Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Vassalboro, and actually visited the museum at the old Augusta location when I was a kid!

CDM: Can you tell us a little bit about your background?

I’ve been teaching science for 10 years, and love doing fun experiments any chance I get. I also have experience working with science education groups outside of the classroom, which aim to spark interest in science at a young age.

CDM: What made you want to work for the Children’s Discovery Museum?

It just sounded like so much fun… planning activities and playing with kids? Sign me up!

CDM: What are you most excited about for the new museum?

I’m most excited about all of the space, like the additional classroom space and gathering hall. This will allow us to plan even more fun in the same space.

CDM: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

To be super fast like the flash - that way I could get all my chores done quickly, and my commute to work would take 30 seconds!
