Children's Discovery Museum’s Guest Policies

The Children’s Discovery Museum is a joyful place where children and their grown-ups learn and play together. To ensure that all guests have a positive and safe experience, we expect our staff, volunteers and guests to follow the Museum’s guest policies as outlined below. By purchasing a ticket & visiting the Children’s Discovery Museum, you are agreeing to abide by these policies.

  • First and foremost, please assume good intentions, both between yourself and another guest, and between yourself and a staff member.

  • For the safety of all our guests, children must be supervised by an adult caregiver at all times. This includes not leaving a child in the museum to get something from the car, and not leaving a child in the Exhibit Hall to visit the restroom, nursing room, snack room, or another room in the museum. Please be mindful of screen usage and avoid using earbuds.

  • Children should not leave the Museum unless accompanied by an adult.

  • Guests are expected to follow all verbal and written directions of the Children’s Discovery Museum staff, including following health and safety policies. The Museum reserves the right to remove any person who refuses to comply with institutional policies.

  • Only water is allowed in the Exhibit Hall. All other beverages and snacks must be consumed in the snack room.

  • All guests must use their “walking feet.” Running is discouraged in order to provide a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone.

  • Appropriate attire must be worn at all times in the Museum. There are certain types of clothing, accessories, items, or slogans displayed on clothing that are inappropriate for a setting where children are present, such as images or language depicting nudity, violence, violent statements, or anything that does not foster an inclusive, kind environment. We strive to create a safe environment where all people feel welcome and comfortable. Individuals wearing clothing that does not fit these standards will be asked to cover the concerning item of clothing or asked to leave.

  • Weapons are strictly prohibited at the Museum. This policy applies to all visitors, including those with permits. Any guest seen with a weapon will be asked to leave immediately.

  • Due to our fire alarm system, helium balloons are not allowed in the Museum.

  • Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited in the Museum and on the Museum property.

  • Outside alcohol is prohibited in the Museum.

  • Profanity is prohibited. If a guest becomes physically or verbally abusive to staff or other guests, they will be asked to leave.

  • Unless specifically invited to do so, guests may not remove items from the Museum (e.g., exhibit props, like the race cars).

  • The Children’s Discovery Museum is not responsible for any items lost or left at the museum.

  • Guests should conduct themselves in a manner appropriate for a children’s museum. Museum staff reserves the right to refuse admission, revoke membership and/or remove any person for any reason without refund.

The Museum reserves the right to update these policies at any time.

Weather

In the event of inclement weather, the museum will be closed if the Waterville Public Schools are closed or have a delayed opening. In the case of an early dismissal at the schools, the museum will also close early. On the weekends, the call to close will be made in the morning and will be posted on our website as well as on social media.

Shoes

We ask that guests please remove their shoes and play in socks or indoor shoes between December 1 and April 1 to help preserve our floors and exhibits.
